10 Things To Do

Want to do something to help stop global warming? Here are 10 simple things you can do and how much carbon dioxide you'll save doing them (CO2 saving in parentheses).

  1. Change a light
    Replace 1 standard bulb with a CFL (150 lbs/year)
  2. Drive less
Walk, bike, carpool, and plan trips (1 lb/mile)
  3. Recycle more
Recycle half your household trash (2,400 lbs/year)
  4. Check your tires
Proper inflation improves gas mileage 3% (20 lbs/year/gal)
  5. Use less hot water
Low flow showerhead; cold water laundry (350-500 lbs/year)
  6. Avoid products with a lot of packaging
Cut down your trash by 10% (1,200 lbs/year)
  7. Adjust your thermostat
Down 2° in winter, up 2° in summer (2,000 lbs/year)
  8. Plant a tree
    One tree absorbs 2,000 lbs/life
  9. Turn off electronic devices
Turn off the TV, DVD player, stereo and computer when not in use (2,000+ lbs/year)
  10. Reduce number of weekly dryer loads
Dry laundry on a line or wooden rack (260 lbs/load)
